Yesterday I shared about how the word ‘dismantling’ has been showing up in front of my face—and within me—a lot recently.
Another term that’s been popping up in front of me lately has been ‘the nervous system.’
Has this term been being thrown around in conversation, webinars, podcasts you’ve been listening to, in books you’ve been reading, too?
Maybe. Maybe not?
A day ago, I was watching a recording of a presentation someone was giving. And she was talking about how important “nervous system healing” is to her.
This was the last time I let this slide by without further figuring out for myself why the nervous system is so important. Honestly, some part of me thought it was some foofy thing people were associating to stress and trauma that really didn’t have much to it.
Hahaha, I crack myself up at some of the things my ego makes up. I was so wrong.
Reading and a Video
I read (almost) all of this: Introduction to the Nervous System (provided by the National Cancer Institute so there are references to tumors and other cancer-related terms and topics)
I watched all of this (at 1.75 speed): Nervous System Overview (and below - provided by Science with Susanna, check out her further notes about the nervous system)
OOOOOH okay, now that I know more it makes a whole lot more sense. Not just the terms but also why it’s so important.
So, why am I talking about the nervous system in this e.i.b.?
e.i.b. is a space and place in which it’s okay to not know.
e.i.b. is a space and place in which it’s encouraged to re / un / learn for the first time.
I have realized that I intentionally seek out spaces and places of belonging and community in which not knowing and wanting to learn is not only allowed but is actively encouraged.
Our nervous systems don’t live in individual silos but they interact with other nervous systems and maybe that’s an e.i.b., too?
What are you (re / un) learning about right now? And why is it important to you?
Is there someone you know who might want to learn about the nervous system, too? :-) You can click this ‘share’ link and share just this post with them. They won’t be subscribed to anything, unless they choose to do so.
Til tomorrow,
Cassandra
